odd future show 032012

10:47:25 AM V: important issues:

10:47:30 AM V: 1) the situation!

10:47:52 AM V: 2) omg, the ofwgkta show was INSANE

10:48:51 AM J: was it great?

10:48:59 AM V: well

10:49:03 AM V: it was amazing

10:49:11 AM V: and they are very good for being, like, teenagers

10:49:25 AM V: and only having performed like 10 shows before

10:49:29 AM V: like, very good

10:49:35 AM V: but they are definitely teenagers

10:49:39 AM V: and so is the crowd

10:49:46 AM V: and the crowd is all superfans

10:50:01 AM V: who know like every word and scream in the same fashion as tyler

10:50:07 AM V: so it's a little scary

10:50:22 AM V: but they are very talented

10:50:44 AM V: if they dont get too crazy with the lifestyle, they are totally like the future solo artists of hip hop

10:50:48 AM V: and thank god

10:51:11 AM V: also frank ocean was there, but i think that might have been only for ny bc of his schedule

10:51:53 AM V: also apparently one of the rappers

10:52:14 AM V: who was 16 when the first ep dropped (and is now 18! - Earl Sweatshirt)

10:52:27 AM V: was sent away to a boarding school in Samoa for the last year and a half

10:52:34 AM V: and he made his triumphant return last night

10:52:58 AM V: incidentally, i think earl sweatshirt is an amazing name

10:53:23 AM J: earl sweatshirt!

10:53:25 AM J: ahahahahaha

10:53:32 AM J: that is the best

10:53:48 AM V: the girls in front of us

10:53:54 AM V: were there with their dad

10:54:04 AM V: and he was standing in the back and kept texting her

10:54:11 AM V: and then coming over and tapping her on the shoulder

10:54:30 AM V: on her phone, when she would text, i could see the chat was with "Daddy"

10:54:33 AM V: hahahahhahahahaah

10:54:41 AM V: on the way out, he was not the only dad i saw

10:55:07 AM V: also, there was a man dressed as a soda in the audience

10:55:11 AM V: NOT with the band

10:55:22 AM V: and he would dance and be all stanky legged

10:55:26 AM V: and it was mesmerizing

10:55:28 AM J: HAHAHAHAHA

10:55:32 AM J: omg i can't wait

10:55:50 AM V: i was expecting a standard hip hop show, skewing younger

10:55:54 AM V: but it was not that

10:56:05 AM V: so if you are prepared for them to be kind of yelling and being kooky

10:56:11 AM V: and to feel like you are in a teen movie

10:56:15 AM V: theni think it'll be amazing

10:56:34 AM V: during earl's deportment, there was a campaign called. "free sweatshirt"

10:56:39 AM V: amazing

10:56:45 AM V: that campaign is over now, obvers

10:57:18 AM J: ahahahahahahahahahaha

10:59:51 AM J: http://pitchfork.com/news/45863-report-odd-future-live-in-new-york/

11:03:41 AM V: oh yeah

11:03:44 AM V: that was basically how it was

11:04:17 AM V: we should blog our IMs after we talk about any culture we absorb

11:04:25 AM V: bc really

11:04:32 AM V: we're also geniuses

11:04:52 AM J: um

11:04:53 AM J: yes

11:05:20 AM V: tyler is really awesome

11:05:47 AM V: i hope he can maintain his artistic ambition in the face of fame/drugs/etc

11:05:57 AM V: bc he is like method man and gza and rza all in one

11:06:16 AM J: that is so good

11:06:27 AM J: i know relatively little about odd future

11:06:27 AM J: like

11:06:30 AM J: just the basics

11:06:33 AM J: and i like the music

11:06:50 AM J: so it will be crazy to be with the super-fans

11:07:08 AM V: yes

11:07:11 AM V: it was intimidating

11:07:16 AM V: there was this TINY blonde girl

11:07:18 AM V: like 18 maybe

11:07:29 AM V: SCREAMING all the lyrics right next to us

11:07:35 AM V: i watched her half the time

11:08:08 AM V: i like them bc i love hip hop so much, even bad hip hop

11:08:12 AM V: so like the last 10 years

11:08:21 AM V: have been fine for me, but then these kids come on the scene

11:08:23 AM V: and it's like

11:08:41 AM V: all energy and raw talent and potential being realized

11:08:51 AM V: and it's very exciting as a fan of the genre

11:08:58 AM V: but i do feel like a tourist

11:09:00 AM J: yes!

11:09:08 AM J: like i have not been excited about new hip hop

11:09:09 AM J: like

11:09:14 AM J: lil wayne is obvi great

11:09:18 AM J: but i am not so into them

11:09:21 AM J: you know?

11:09:23 AM V: totally

11:09:25 AM J: him

11:09:40 AM J: but when i heard odd future on the radio

11:09:41 AM J: i was like

11:09:44 AM J: WHAT IS THIS?

11:09:46 AM V: yes!

11:09:51 AM V: it's like this modern group

11:09:58 AM V: that has taken everything before it

11:10:03 AM V: and synthesized

11:10:06 AM V: and modernized

11:10:12 AM V: but it's still recognizable

11:10:14 AM V: and so good

11:10:28 AM V: even when they are more horrorcorey, which i'm less into

11:10:38 AM V: you can see the potential and the talent like radiate off them

11:12:18 AM V: at one point, tyler's mom came on stage and was rapping a long

11:12:21 AM V: it was awesome

11:12:26 AM V: she is like 2 years older than we are

11:12:30 AM J: that is so sad

11:12:32 AM J: for us

11:12:34 AM V: i know
